bearnakademy is a blog where we tell our stories while participating in Tokopedia's new employee orientation program called Nakama Academy.

'Nakama' means 'friend who more like family' in Japanese. In Tokopedia, basically all employees are called 'Nakama'. Those who participate in Nakama Academy are called 'NewKama' (New Nakama, or we assume that it's a funky way to say 'newcomer'?), who aim to become the real 'Nakama' after two weeks worth of orientation. NewKamas are expected to learn all about Tokopedia, whether its their vision, how they work, or their work culture, that they need to know before get into work for real.

The name 'bearnakademy' turns out as our blog's name as our team name (Bear) and the name of the program Nakama Academy itself are mixed together. In Bahasa Indonesia, the word 'ber', which is pronounced similarly with 'bear', is a prefix that changes a word into a verb. That's why, the name 'bearnakademy' also means that "We're doing Nakama Academy". What a funny name, isn't it?

If you need to ask something that you're still curious about, you can contact us at bearnakademy@gmail.com.

Please keep in update with our journey to be the real Nakama! Stay tuned!

Best regards,
